Three Children Standing

from Heroes & Laments: Walmatjarri Stories by Olive Knight

/

about

Lyrics written in honour of my sister’s grandchildren, removed because they could not see any other way of amending issues, removal was the only option, they are my little heroes, they have had to endure such careless action and pain, torn apart mentally and physically, but remain strong throughout.

lyrics

Three children standing with sad, sad hearts,
Tears in their eyes very soon to part.

Removed for their protection, so the system says,
So-called wisdom, better they don’t stay.

Part of a number, in a cold, cold house,
Away from their country, in a strange, strange town.

Many months goes by, until their return,
Back to their family, whose hearts still yearned.
